Police: Amityville Man Calls 911 on Himself After Gunning Victim Down

Amityville, NY - January 23, 2019 - Suffolk County Police arrested an Amityville man for shooting a man to death in Amityville on Tuesday, January 22.
 
First Precinct officers responded to Albany Avenue and South Park Place at approximately 7:45 a.m. after Mark Cheatham called 911 to report a man had been shot at the location. When officers arrived, they found Michael D. Jackson unconscious, with multiple gunshot wounds, in a 2015 Honda Accord. Jackson, 39, of Amityville, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.
 
Cheatham, 34, of Amityville, was charged with Murder 2nd Degree. Cheatham will be held overnight at the First Precinct and arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on January 23.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
