Skateboarder Seriously Injured After Being Struck by SCPD Vehicle

SCPD are investigating Suffolk County Police vehicle that struck and injured a skateboarder.

Wyandanch, NY - January 23, 2019 - Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash in which a skateboarder was struck by a Suffolk County Police vehicle in Wyandanch on Tuesday, January 22.
 
Two Suffolk County Police First Precinct officers in a marked SUV were traveling southbound on Straight Path, near the intersection of South 24th Street, when they struck a man riding a skateboard northbound in the center turning lane of the road at approximately 5:10 p.m. The officers were responding to a call and had their emergency lights operating.
 
The skateboarder, Michael Moccasin, 28, of Wyandanch was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The two officers were not injured.  
 
The police vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
