Nassau County Police Sergeant Saves Local Man and Dog

Massapequa, NY - January 25, 2015 - The Public Information Office reports the details of a water rescue that occurred on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 2:00pm in Massapequa.

According to police, 911 received a call for a male who fell through the Caroon Lake ice located on Ocean Avenue and Merrick Road.  The 68 year old victim fell through the ice submerging him chest level in ice cold water when he was attempting to retrieve his dog that ran 20 feet out onto the ice.  A Nassau County Police Sergeant arrived and used a ladder as a crutch across the ice reaching the victim and pulling him to safety.  The shivering dog was also safely recovered. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of hypothermia.
