Suffolk County Police First Precinct Officer and Good Samaritan rescued a 12-year-old boy who fell into canal in Babylon this afternoon.

A 12-year-old boy who fell into icy waters in Babylon was rescued by a Good Samaritan and First Precinct Officer Kristen Derkevics.

Babylon, NY - January 25, 2016 - Suffolk County Police First Precinct Officer and Good Samaritan rescued a 12-year-old boy who fell into canal in Babylon this afternoon.

A 12-year-old boy was walking along the docks behind Fire Island Avenue and Cedar Lane in Babylon when he slipped and fell into the water at approximately 4:35 p.m. First Precinct Officer Kristen Derkevics responded and along with a Good Samaritan pulled the boy out of the water.  Prior to officer Derkevics’ arrival, the Good Samaritan extended a shovel that the boy held on to.

The boy was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
