AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. 19-Year-Old Female Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Vehicle, Driver Arrested with Assistance from Witness

The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred at 10:15pm on Monday, January 25, 2016 in Hicksville.

Gurvinder Talwar, 61, of Farmingdale was arrested after leaving the scene of an accident in Hicksville after his vehicle struck and killed a 19-year-old female pedestrian. He is charged with Vehicular Manslaughter, Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident, DWI, and Failure to Comply with a Lawful Order.

Hicksville, NY - January 27, 2016 - The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred at 10:15pm on Monday, January 25, 2016 in Hicksville.

According to Detectives, defendant Gurvinder Talwar, 61, of Farmingdale was operating a grey colored 2014 Honda CRV southbound on Broadway when he struck a nineteen year old female pedestrian.  The victim who had crossed the roadway into the west shoulder was struck by Defendant Talwar in front of 311 Broadway, he then left the scene.

With the assistance of a witness, the defendant was arrested at 10:50 pm in front of 595 Broadway.  The victim sustained serious internal and head injuries and was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where she was pronounced in the emergency room. The investigation in ongoing.

Defendant Gurvinder Talwar is charged with Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd, Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident, DWI sub.2, DWI sub.3 and Failure to Comply with a Lawful Order. He was arraigned on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
