Suffolk County Sheriff Honors 9th Grade Student With Community Leadership Award

Written by Chris Boyle  |  28. January 2025

On Monday, January 27, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. presented the January Community Leadership Award to Kayla Kelly, a Freshman at Center Moriches High School, in recognition of her remarkable commitment to helping children in need during the holiday season.

For the past seven years, Kayla has demonstrated incredible generosity by collecting toys from neighbors and friends to ensure that children who might not otherwise receive holiday gifts are not left out. This past holiday season, Kayla collected and donated 300 toys. She split these donations between Helping Makes U Happy and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office’s 3rd Annual Pajama & Toy Giveaway. Kayla’s contributions brought joy to countless children and families.

Each month, Sheriff Toulon presents the Community Leadership Award to recognize Suffolk County residents who go above and beyond to better their communities and provide support to those in need.
