Moriches, NY - January 31, 2014 - For many students, the teachers’ lounge seems like an exotic faraway place that they are not allowed to enter. Well, a group of William Floyd Middle School students had the opportunity to go where few have ventured before – into the teachers’ lounge for a lunch served by their teachers.
The William Floyd Middle School Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Team hosted 105 sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students for their tri-annual “Student Bistro,” held in the teachers’ lounge as a reward for being “caught” doing the right thing. The theme was “An Italian Feast” with food and dessert either made or donated by members of the faculty and staff.
The cost to enter the Student Bistro was $10 in “Colonial Cash,” a school currency that students receive throughout the school year for various positive acts which make a difference including showing kindness, being respectful, helping others, being responsible and more.
For the main course students feasted upon Mr. Rich Harris’s homemade ziti with sauce and meatballs and then enjoyed a variety of desserts. Students also had the opportunity to win a $15 iTunes gift card donated by a teacher.
“We hold a student bistro three times per year to show students that hard work and doing the right thing pays off,” said Denise Organ, a sixth-grade science teacher at William Floyd Middle School. “It’s a great experience for the students and the teachers.”
