This image of people in the water and a fin-back whale washed up on shore is from a book called “Unique Long Island Camera Sketches" created by the Long Island Railroad published around the turn of the 20th Century. The book was compliments of the LIRR and encouraged people to travel east to explore the beauty of Long Island.

An inscription in the books says that “The Long Island Railroad Company in the belief that the ‘sun pictures’ will describe better than words Long Island's many charms.” The photo caption reads, “AN AMAGANSETT SPORT.” There are two other captions that read, “Crabbing” and “A Big Catch - Fin-Back Whale.”
