AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Bay Shore Man Exits Ambulance in Motion, Killed in Hit and Run Crash

Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a Bay Shore man in Holtsville yesterday.

Frank Ligrnetta, 51, of Bay Shore was killed after exiting the rear of an ambulance in motion that was followed by a hit and run crash in Holtsville.

Holtsville, NY - February 2, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a Bay Shore man in Holtsville yesterday.

A Hunter EMS ambulance was traveling southbound on Nicolls Road and transporting a patient from Stony Brook University Hospital to Brunswick Hospital Center in Amityville at approximately 6:55 p.m. The patient, Frank Ligrnetta, exited from the rear of the ambulance while it was in motion and was struck by a dark-colored sedan that was also traveling southbound on Nicolls Road, south of Expressway Drive South in Holtsville.

Ligrnetta, 51, of Bay Shore, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The driver of the dark-colored sedan fled the scene of the accident.

The ambulance was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
