LI's Adorable Adoptables is a weekly column by Allison Matos, a lifelong Long Island resident who has been advocating animal adoption since 2012. Allison's weekly posts highlight local animals in need of adoption, and cover general animal welfare topics as well.

Jill is one of 4 kittens that were rescued by nuns in Brentwood and then fostered and socialized before coming to Last Hope Animal Rescue.  Jill is a sweet 8 month old gal who will warm your heart from the moment you meet her. Handsome Duke is a 1 year old boy who can't wait to be your new best friend. For more information about adopting these sweet kitties, contact Last Hope Animal Rescue.

Right next door at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is this adorably handsome fella named Cody.  Cody is a 3 year old Hound mix who was found as a stray in December 2015. When he was found, he showed evidence of being hit by a car- poor Cody had cuts and scrapes, but no major damage, thank goodness.  He is healthy as a clam and ready to find his forever home. It's very hard to believe, but this adorable boy has been at the shelter for well over a year, and to date, has not had one meet and greet.

That makes the staff very sad, but we're quite sure it makes Cody even sadder. Cody has made some great volunteer friends since being there, and they have great things to say about him: Cody loves to go for walks (he walks really well on leash), he loves to play with tennis balls and he is a fast learner. He also is a pro at catching treats mid-air. Cody is also a very loving dog, who loves attention from his person. Cody is guaranteed to make an incredible companion, so please ask to meet Cody today. As always thank you for reading- and please remember to always adopt, never shop...pass it on.
