AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Man Arrested for Possessing Illegal Fireworks and Controlled Substances

Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for possessing illegal fireworks and controlled substances in East Islip.

During the investigation it was discovered the numerous powders found at the scene had the potential to cause a powerful explosion or explosions which could result in substantial personal injury and property damage.

East Islip, NY - February 2, 2017 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for possessing illegal fireworks and controlled substances in East Islip.

In response to numerous 911 complaints and Crime Stoppers tips, Third Precinct Crime Section officers, Criminal Intelligence detectives, a bomb expert from The Joint Terrorist Task Force and Suffolk County Probation responded to an East Islip residence on January 25 to conduct an investigation.

A search of Anthony Chiuchiolo’s bedroom was conducted and illegal fireworks, along with a duffle bag containing explosive powders and blasting caps, were located.  Suffolk County Arson Squad and The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were then called to the scene to assist in the investigation and to secure the area. 

During the investigation it was discovered the numerous powders found at the scene had the potential to cause a powerful explosion or explosions which could result in substantial personal injury and property damage.

Chiuchiolo 26, who resides at that address, was charged with 2 counts of Unlawful Possession of Fireworks and 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Chiuchiolo was issued a Desk Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
