AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that registration for the 2016 Nickerson Beach Park Cabana Lottery will begin on Monday, February 29th and will run through Monday, April 25th.

Nassau County, NY - February 3, 2016 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that registration for the 2016 Nickerson Beach Park Cabana Lottery will begin on Monday, February 29th and will run through Monday, April 25th. The cabana lottery drawing will take place at Nickerson Beach on Tuesday, April 26th at 10 a.m., any winners not present will be notified via telephone. The cabana fee for the 2016 summer season is $3,750.

“From cabanas to campgrounds and pools to playgrounds, Nickerson Beach is a great place to bring your family during the summer season,” said County Executive Mangano. “I invite residents to visit Nickerson Beach this summer and enjoy all the amenities it has to offer.”

To register, applicants must apply in person at the Nickerson Beach administration building on daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Applicants must pay a non-refundable $25 lottery fee and provide a valid driver’s license, an electric bill or current tax bill as additional proof of residency, and a Nassau County Leisure Pass, which can be purchased at the park for $25. Only one application may be submitted per family.

Nickerson Beach hosts 620 cabanas, including 122 new cabanas added for the 2016 season. Cabinettes and Lockers at Nickerson Beach are not subject to a lottery and the cabinette fee for the 2016 summer season is $795.
