Freeport, NY - February 7, 2014 - The Robbery Squad reports the arrest of a Binghamton man for a Robbery that occurred on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 11:31 p.m. in Freeport.
According to detectives, two male black subjects entered the 7-11 convenience store located at 80 Brooklyn Avenue and demanded the money. The first subject was armed with a handgun, 6’ tall; wearing a black and gray jacket, dark pants and a dark mask, the second subject was armed with a knife, 5’10” tall, wearing black jacket, dark pants and a mask. They also removed electronic cigarettes, assorted cigars and a cell phone from one of the two male employees, before fleeing in an unknown direction. Freeport Police responded and during their investigation conducted a stop of an All-Island Taxi on Nassau Road and Babylon Turnpike in Roosevelt. While interviewing the passenger/defendant, Tyree Willis, 32 of 159 Oak Street they discovered there was a warrant for his arrest by New York State Division of Parole, he was placed under arrest without incident. A subsequent investigation by the Robbery Squad and First Squad detectives determined that Willis had remained outside the 7-11 store acting as a lookout and when the subjects exited the store they passed the proceeds off to him which were recovered during the arrest. Detectives were able to also connect Willis to a robbery committed on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 1:40 a.m. at 7-11 Convenience store located at 331 Merrick Avenue, East Meadow. There were no injuries reported in either incident.
Willis is charged with (3) three counts of Robbery 1st degree, (2) two counts of Robbery 2nd degree and Violation of Parole. He will be arraigned on Friday, February 7, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
