Blizzard Warning In Effect For Suffolk County Due To Winter Storm Niko

The approaching Winter Storm Niko has Suffolk County under a Blizzard Warning from 3 AM until 6 PM on Thursday.  Snow accumulations are expected in the range of 10-14 inches, with higher totals possible in areas.  Winds are expected to be 20-30 mph with gusts of up to 45 mph.

Although not a Blizzard Warning, Nassau County is covered under a Winter Storm Warning from 12 AM - 6 PM on Thursday, with snow accumulations expected in the range of 8-12 inches. Winds will blow at 15-25 mph with gusts of up to 30-35 mph.

Thursday morning's commute is shaping up to be quite dangerous, with heavy snow and reduced visibilities creating hazardous conditions throughout Long Island.  Snow may be falling at a rate of 2-4 inches per hour during the morning and early afternoon, ensuring treacherous road conditions throughout the day.
