AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a Mastic Beach woman in Brookhaven this morning.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.

Brookhaven, NY - February 7, 2017 - Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a Mastic Beach woman in Brookhaven this morning.
 
Mary Schwab was driving a 2008 Honda westbound on Montauk Highway when her vehicle struck a 2011 Mitsubishi, driven by Kyra Lirosi, that was attempting to make a left turn from eastbound Montauk Highway onto Horseblock Road at 6:08 a.m.
 
Schwab, 64, of Mastic Beach, was transported by South Country Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where she was pronounced dead. Lirosi, 21, of Brookhaven, was also transported by South Country Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
 
Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
