AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Man Shot and Killed in Car Outside Wyandanch Home

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man parked outside of his house in Wyandanch Saturday night.

Wyandanch, NY - February 8th, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man parked outside of his house in Wyandanch Saturday night.
 
Vernon Brown was sitting in the passenger seat of a car with a friend in front of 74 S. 31st St., when a male on a bicycle approached the car and fired one shot into the vehicle, hitting Brown. The bicyclist fled the scene.
 
The friend drove Brown to a house on Levey Boulevard in Wyandanch where another friend called 911 at approximately 5:55 p.m. Brown, 32, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, by Wyandanch Wheatley Heights Ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.
 
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the shooting to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6394 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
