Transit Wireless Brings Mobile Messengers to Queens Underground Subway Stations
Queens, NY - February 11, 2015 - Transit Wireless announced today that a team of Mobile Messengers will be present in select Queens subway stations from February 11th - 14th to inform riders about the availability of cellular service and the new Transit Wireless Wi-Fi service, and help connect their mobile devices to the network.
Transit Wireless recently completed the build out of its wireless and Wi-Fi network in all 30 of the MTA’s underground subway stations in the borough, along with the installation of instructional signage in each station.
“The wireless and Wi-Fi network will allow Queens subway riders to place calls, navigate the web, and perform a wide range of online tasks as they wait for underground trains,” said William A. Bayne CEO of Transit Wireless. “Transit Wireless is committed to providing wireless and Wi-Fi connectivity to all New Yorkers through our partnerships with the MTA and the wireless carriers.”
New signage will be installed in the 30 underground Queens stations to provide riders notification of wireless services and basic instructions for logging onto the Wi-Fi service within station mezzanine and platform areas. Upon entering the station, riders will have access to wireless service from the four major U.S. carriers: AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless. The partnership between MTA, Transit Wireless, and the wireless carriers has enabled riders to remain connected in the stations as they commute around New York City, including access to E911.
The Mobile Messengers in Transit Wireless Wi-Fi branded gear will carry devices and help riders connect to the network in the following Queens stations from 10:30am-2:30pm:
Wednesday, February 11th – Forest Hills (E,F,M,R)
Thursday, February 12th – JFK Airport/Sutphin-Archer Ave (E,J,Z)
Friday, February 13th – Flushing Main St. (7)
Saturday, February 14th – Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Ave (E,F,M,R,7)
About Transit Wireless Wi-Fi
To connect to the complimentary Wi-Fi service, riders can simply select the SSID “TransitWirelessWiFi” and go to their browser before being connected to the Internet. Riders will also be able to browse daily New York City news and events from CityBuzz as they wait in underground stations. The new Transit Wireless Wi-Fi service allows riders to stay connected for up to an hour before having to log on again.
