Written by Lon Cohen  |  15. February 2022

The Town of Huntington is hosting its 23rd annual writing contest for students who attend school or reside in the town in 4th through 12th grades. The “Huntington Youth Writes” contest is sponsored by Huntington Youth Bureau Project Excel.

“We have some incredibly creative students across the Town of Huntington,” said Town Supervisor Ed Smyth. “This is a unique opportunity for these talented young writers to get published for the first time.”

Since it began in 1999, over 20,000 students have entered the contest.

Winners will be awarded gift cards and have their work published collectively by the Town of Huntington. The writing categories are poetry, short fiction, and essays, with cash prizes for first, second, and third in each category in grades four and five, six through eight, and nine through twelve.

Deadline for submission is Friday, March 4th, 2022 at 5pm. Enter online by clicking here. Parents and students with questions may contact Valerie E. Drakos at the Huntington Youth Bureau at (631) 271-5499.
