Mount Vernon Man Allegedly Uses Fake ID to Deposit Fraudulent Check & Withdraw Over $6K from Victim's Account

The Major Crimes Squad reports the arrest of a Mount Vernon man for Grand Larceny that occurred on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 3:50 p.m. in Hicksville.
 
According to detectives, Defendant Dennis Magnotta, 68, of 376 Hayward Avenue, Mount Vernon, NY, entered the Island Federal Credit Union at 85 East Old Country Road in Hicksville. The defendant signed and deposited a fraudulent check into a members account and provided the bank with a counterfeit New Jersey Driver’s License identifying himself as the member. He withdrew three thousand dollars from the victims checking account and three thousand dollars from the savings account, totaling six thousand dollars. 
 
After a thorough investigation, the defendant was identified by the Major Crimes Squad and with the assistance of the Mount Vernon Police Department, the defendant was located and arrested by Nassau County Detectives. The defendant was transported back to Nassau County without incident.
 
Defendant Magnotta is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree, Identity Theft 1st Degree, and Unlawful Possession of Personal Identifying. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
