Pax Update: Weather, Traffic, Closures and Delays
Additional overnight snow accumulations from winter storm Pax have produced dangerous traveling conditions on Long Island’s roadways this morning. Mass transit cancellations and delays and two-hour delayed openings for most school districts are reported. Here’s the latest information:
WEATHER
The National Weather Service reports that the Winter Storm Warning expired at 6 a.m. Light snow will end this morning but road conditions will remain hazardous due to additional snow accumulations and standing water from early heavy rainfall and snow melt. LIRR
The LIRR will operate on a modified weekday schedule during this morning’s rush. Some peak trains in the Babylon, Hempstead, Long Beach, Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson/Hungington, Port Washington and Ronkonkoma branches will be canceled. Peak trains in the Babylon and Port Jefferson/Huntington branches will have added trains. Be sure to check MTA Service Status before heading out.
SCHOOL DISTRICTS
With additional overnight snow accumulations causing poor driving conditions, many of the local districts have announced two-hour delays and others closures. Please visit LongIsland.com’s School Closings Page for the latest updates on your local district.
LONG ISLAND MACARTHUR AIRPORT
Long Island MacArthur Airport has posted a travel advisory as of 5:30 a.m.
Southwest Airlines is expected to resume service at 10:20 a.m. US Airways Express is expected to resume service at 11:25a.m. PenAir's first flight is currently scheduled for 8:10 a.m. Allegiant Air's flight is currently scheduled for 5:20 p.m. MacArthur Airport is advising travelers to contact their airline for the most updated flight info, as this is subject to change.
