The William Floyd varsity boys’ wrestling team, coached by Tony Mecca, had a strong showing at the League I championships last weekend! The Colonials finished in second place as a team, with a grand total of 10 wrestlers finishing within the top four and earning All-League status! This included two league champions, four second place finishes, two third place finishes and two fourth place finishes. These 10 wrestlers officially qualified for the county championships taking place this coming weekend at Stony Brook University:
Overall Champions
Second Place
Third Place
Fourth Place
In addition to the team’s success at the League I championships, Jack Meyer was named the winner of the Spartan Award as the most outstanding wrestler in League I! He’ll serve as the flag-bearer at the upcoming county championships in honor of this achievement. This award comes after a tremendous season for Meyer in which he finished in the top three across numerous tournaments and reached 100-career wins. He is the seventh William Floyd wrestler to achieve the 100-win milestone and one of the rare wrestlers to do so in just his junior year. Coach Mecca added that he’s on pace to reach 115 wins and become the William Floyd all-time win leader in his senior year!
Congratulations to all of the student-athletes, coaches and assistant coaches on these amazing accomplishments and best of luck in the county championships!
