The Fire Island Ferries and the Village of Ocean Beach have failed to come to an agreement and all services to the village will be suspended come March1, according to a statement released by the ferry company on Monday.
“For over a year now, in good faith, we have operated under an expired agreement while continuing our efforts to negotiate with the Village of Ocean Beach board,” the statement reads. “Unfortunately, as of today, February 14, 2022, a new agreement has not been reached.”
As of March 1, 2022 all ferry, freight and water taxi services to and from Ocean Beach will be suspended until such a time that a new agreement has been finalized. During this period of suspended services, all passenger ferries originally bound for Ocean Beach will arrive and depart from Seaview, and all freight services will arrive and depart from Ocean Bay Park.
“We apologize for the hardship this will undoubtedly cause, and we will continue to work with the Village of Ocean Beach board to reach a new agreement as soon as possible,” the company said.
Ocean Beach homeowner tickets will still be accepted for the trips that arrive/depart from Seaview starting March 1, 2022.
