For those of us staying put over winter break next week there are a lot of options to keep the kids occupied. Don’t just veg in front of your screens. Get the family out and check out some of these fun events coming up over the winter break.

 

Solve a Mystery!

 

Mystery at the Museum - A crime has been committed and we need your help in catching the culprit! Use forensic science to gather and analyze data to get to the bottom of the mystery! We’ll explore fingerprinting, blood testing, and more! Where: Science Museum of Long Island, 1526 North Plandome Road, Manhasset.

 

Make Art!

 

February Break for Art: Three Days of Artmaking for Families - Three days of art making inspired by the art on view in the museum’s current exhibition Songs Without Words: The Art of Music. A different project will be offered every day! Where: Nassau County Museum of Art, One Museum Drive, Roslyn Harbor.

Immerse Yourself in Nature!

 

Owls and Night Hike - Visit Sweetbriar to meet and learn about some of our resident owls. We will embark on a walk into the darkness to enjoy the night. We will not be calling owls on this walk.  Dress warmly, wear bug spray, and bring a flashlight just in case. Where: Sweetbriar Nature Center, 62 Eckernkamp Drive, Smithtown.

 

CSTL's Dinosaur! and Live Animals Exhibit - The exhibit, focuses on how animals adapt and survive, which is demonstrated through a unique intermixing of dinosaur models and live animals together. See robotic and skeletal life size dinosaurs and live animals such as snakes, emus, turtles and lots more in natural settings!   Appropriate for all ages. Learn about animal and dinosaur adaptations, what’s so special about each dinosaur or animal that helped it survive? Hands on activities and a dino dig too! Where: The Center for Science Teaching and Learning, 1450 Tanglewood Road, Rockville Centre.

 

Winter Funcation - Working during school break? Drop your kids off for some Winter Break Fun at the Long Island Aquarium. Kids 5-11 will tour the Aquarium, including the Butterflies, Bugs & Bees habitat, feed the sting rays, check out the Sea Lion Show, visit the Arcade, watch a movie, make a craft and more!  You can send your child for the entire week, or just for a day or two.  You’ll be assured that your child is having a good time in a safe, fun and educational environment.  Your kids will have a great Winter Break! Rock Out!

Mid-Winter Break Boy Scout Merit Badge Workshops - Join our Certified Merit Badge Counselors from February 22 - 24, 2022, for three separate workshops designed to help scouts earn their Robotics, Energy, and Aviation Merit Badges.
