Spring symposium 2024 attendance.

The Real Estate Institute (REI) at Stony Brook University recently announced it will host its Annual Spring Luncheon on March 13 to explore challenges facing Long Island’s housing market and solutions to advance sustainable development in the region. The event brings together experts, policymakers, and community leaders to foster a meaningful discussion on the evolving housing landscape and its implications for residents and businesses alike. The theme of this year's luncheon, which will be held at the Heritage Club at Bethpage, is "Long Island Housing Development: Challenges and Opportunities." For more information about the event, sponsorship options, and to purchase tickets, visit https://www.reisb.org/symposiums-and-luncheons.

This year’s luncheon emphasizes REI’s commitment to serving as a key educational resource for the Long Island community. By convening thought leaders from across the real estate industry, REI aims to provide valuable insights into the complexities of housing development and its long-term impact on local communities. The event will feature a panel discussion with leading industry experts who will share their perspectives on New York State’s financial incentives, tax benefits, and funding opportunities to diversify and expand Long Island’s housing supply.

"The entitlement process is very complicated on Long Island," said Kevin Law, Executive Vice President and Partner at TRITEC, who will moderate the panel discussion. "This event offers a vital forum for industry experts to explore financial incentives, policy shifts, and development strategies aimed at improving housing accessibility and sustainability in our communities."

The panel discussion will feature distinguished speakers, including Cara Longworth, Vice President and Regional Director at Empire State Development; Anthony Bartone, Managing Partner at Terwilliger & Bartone Properties; Ralph Ekstrand, Mayor of Farmingdale; Dan Panico, Supervisor of the Town of Brookhaven; and David Pennetta, Executive Managing Director at Cushman & Wakefield Long Island. The discussion will focus on the evolving needs of the region’s housing market, the economic and social impact of new developments, and strategies for responsible growth.

The luncheon will begin with registration at 11:15 a.m., followed by networking with a cash bar at 11:30 a.m. The panel discussion and luncheon will begin at 12:15 p.m. Individual tickets are available for $90 in advance and $100 at the door, while table sponsorships are available for $800 (table of 10) and $750 (event sponsorship with two tickets included).

The Real Estate Institute encourages media representatives and government officials to attend this event and engage with the ideas presented. This is an opportunity to leverage the institutional knowledge and expertise housed at REI for the benefit of the broader community.
