ELEVATED THREAT OF WILDFIRE SPREAD TODAY The combination of unseasonably warm temperatures, west winds gusting 25 to 30 mph, minimum relative humidity values of 30 to 40 percent, and low fuel moisture will create an elevated risk of wildfire growth and spread today. A backdoor cold front will move across the area later this afternoon, working from eastern Long Island early this afternoon into the city and Lower Hudson Valley by early this evening. Much cooler air and scattered showers will move into the area decreasing the threat. Exercise caution handling any potential ignition sources, including machinery, cigarettes, and matches. Any fires that ignite under these conditions have the potential to spread quickly. This forecast considers meteorological, fuel, and land conditions and was developed in coordination with state fire and land management officials.

Shirley, NY - February 18th, 2014 - Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the men who burglarized a Shirley home. 
 
Two men broke into a home on Chanel Drive East and stole a safe, cash and a shotgun on November 17, 2013 at 2:30 a.m. 
 
One of the suspects was described as a light-skinned black male, in his 20s, 5 feet 9 inches tall to 6 feet tall with a medium build. He has facial hair and a tattoo on his right hand. The second man was described as white, in his 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build.
 
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
