AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Suffolk County SPCA Offering $2,000 Reward for Information on Mother Cat Abandoned in Carrier With Dead Kittens

The Suffolk County SPCA is offering a $2,000 reward upon arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for abandoning a mother cat and her 4 dead kittens in a wooded area in, Patchogue.

According to the Suffolk County SPCA, a local resident who was walking in the wooded area, spotted the travel carrier containing the mother cat and her 4 dead kittens on a deserted path.

Patchogue, NY - February 18th, 2016 - The Suffolk County SPCA is offering a  $2,000 reward upon arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for abandoning a mother cat and her 4 dead kittens in a wooded area near Grove Avenue between Newins and Smith Streets, Patchogue.

Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk County SPCA, said that on February 17, 2016  a local resident who was walking in the wooded area, spotted the travel carrier containing the mother cat and her 4 dead kittens on a deserted path. The carrier had the initials TOH on it.

Investigators from the Suffolk SPCA are investigating this case. We urge anyone with information to contact us so that we are able to bring the individual(s) responsible for this crime to justice.

Abandonment of a companion animal is a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge  and is punishable by imprisonment and or a fine. The mother cat is being fostered and will be available for adoption.
