New Jersey Woman, Juvenile Male Arrested After Attempting to Steal Hewlett Point Resident's Car, Cops Say

The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a male juvenile and a Clifton female for an attempted Grand Larceny that occurred on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 6:33 a.m. in Hewlett Point.

According to detectives, police responded to a Seawane Road residence for an attempted stolen vehicle. The victim had his vehicle running and saw an unknown male inside his vehicle. He went outside and the suspect fled in a white Hyundai being operated by an unknown female.
 
The responding officers conducted a canvass of the area and located the vehicle. After a thorough investigation, a male juvenile and Melissa Maldonado, 19, of 139 West First Street, New Jersey, were arrested without incident. Defendant Maldonado’s eleven-month-old son was in the backseat of the vehicle. The infant was uninjured and released to a family member.
 
Defendant Maldonado is charged with Attempted Grand Larceny 2nd Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. She will be arraigned on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
 
The juvenile is charged with Attempted Grand Larceny 2nd Degree and will be arraigned on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the Youth Part of First District Court, Hempstead.
