Trio Arrested for Insurance Fraud Conspiracy in Hicksville

Hicksville, NY - February 25th, 2015 - The Major Case Bureau reports three arrests for Insurance Fraud on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 2:20 P.M. in Hicksville.

According to detectives, on February 15, 2015 Anthony D. Trapani, 24, of Winter Lane, Hicksville reported to the Nassau County Police that his 2007 Ford Mustang had been stolen from the Hicksville Long Island Railroad station. An investigation revealed he conspired with Michael Schmeltzer, 24, of Charles Street, Hicksville who arranged to have the car taken from Trapani’s residence by William Lange, 44, of John Street, Amityville.

Schmeltzer then drove Trapani to the train station to make the report.  Lange took the car to 2102 Washington Avenue in Seaford where it was recovered. On February 18, 2014 Schmeltzer was placed under arrest at his residence. On February 24, 2015 Trapani and Lange were arrested at the Hicksville train station.

The three men are charged with Insurance Fraud 3rd degree and Conspiracy 5th degree. Additionally Trapani is charged with Falsifying Business Records 1st degree and Making a Punishable False Written Statement.  Schmeltzer was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Trapani and Lange will be arraigned on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at First District Court in Hempstead.
