Traffic safety improvements for a key stretch of Port Washington Boulevard in Flower Hill are now in the design phase, New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) officials have confirmed to Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove).

Through the project, NYSDOT officials are seeking to improve highway safety and mobility on Port Washington Boulevard (NYS Route 101) at Middle Neck Road by adding a through/right turn lane on southbound Port Washington Boulevard; extending left turn lanes along northbound and southbound Port Washington Boulevard; and adding sidewalk, curb ramps and high visibility crosswalks at the intersection. NYSDOT officials stated that work is tentatively scheduled to begin this summer.

“Port Washington Boulevard is one of the most essential thoroughfares for the Village of Flower Hill and the entire peninsula, and these essential investments will go a long way toward maximizing the safety of our infrastructure for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists alike,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I am glad to hear that the State has started the design phase, and I am looking forward to breaking ground on a project that will deliver key improvements for Flower Hill residents and business owners.”
