Bay Shore, NY - February 27, 2017 - New York State Senator Phil Boyle (R-C-I, Suffolk County) today in a letter called on the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery (GOSR) and its New York Rising Housing Recovery Program to extend the March 1 deadline for applicants to submit changes and/or new requests for additional funds within the Optional Elevation Program to April 1, 2017.
Senator Boyle said, “There are often unforeseen factors that require homeowners to submit pre-construction design changes and ask for additional funding throughout the home elevation process. While I understand that many applicants are well underway in the construction process, this deadline places a significant burden on homeowners who are still waiting to elevate their homes. Residents affected by Superstorm Sandy, and other previous storms, have faced challenging roadblocks resulting in delays in their recovery and construction processes. NY Rising applicants should not have to worry about missing a financial benefit that they may have otherwise been entitled to given this deadline.”
If the deadline is not changed or extended, applicants would forfeit the opportunity to request additional funds required to build out their approved elevation plans. An April 1, 2017 deadline would allow the Legislature to address any necessary changes to the implementation of this New York Rising program within the FY 2017-18 Budget.
