During the Monday, Feb. 24 meeting of the full Nassau County Legislature, Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) joined with her colleagues in honoring Nassau County’s Regeneron Science Talent Search semifinalists and finalists.

Pictured above, Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton and Nassau County Legislator Samantha Goetz (R – Locust Valley) congratulated North Shore High School semifinalist Kaitlin Ho, whose research focused upon “Magnesium Magic: The Rescue of the Parkinson’s Model of Drosophila melanogaster with MgCl₂ Supplementation.” For qualifying as a semifinalist, Kaitlin earned $2,000 and an additional $2,000 award to advance science education at her school.

Kaitlin was one of two Regeneron semifinalists hailing from North Shore High School; her classmate Eli Weseley-Jones was recognized for his project “The Misunderstood Math of Medical Tests: Improving Understanding of Conditional Probability in Screening Tests.”

“Each and every year, Nassau County’s young scholars excel in the Regeneron Science Talent Search and astound us as they delve into research that has the potential to change the world,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “Their achievements give me hope that the future will be in good hands with our next generation of leaders, and I wish Kaitlin, Eli and all of their classmates continued success in all of their pursuits!”
