AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Suffolk County Police have arrested a Huntington Station man for driving while intoxicated after his vehicle struck a police vehicle, injuring a sergeant, and another vehicle in Hauppauge.
 
Tracy Smith was driving a 2021 Volkswagen on the westbound Long Island Expressway, ½ mile west of exit 55, when his vehicle veered off the road and struck a Highway Patrol Bureau vehicle, with its lights activated, that was parked on the shoulder behind another vehicle at 4:43 a.m. The Volkswagen then struck a 2008 Ford, which was in the main travel lanes. None of the Ford's occupants were injured.
 
The occupant of the police vehicle, a Highway Patrol Bureau sergeant, was treated and released at Stony Brook University Hospital. Smith, 30, of 37 Dorchester St., was not injured.
 
Smith was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and issued a summons for violation of the Move Over Law. He was transported to the Third Precinct and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
