Egg Prices Will Fall This Year
Your BEC just got BETTER. Egg prices across Long Island have fallen.
The USDA says that due to avian flu, prices have been on the rise for a year but started to show improvement as grocery stores worked through stock that they had purchased at elevated pricing the USDA said in a recent report.
According to a story in the New York Post, the agency said avian flu killed more than 58 million backyard and commercial chickens and turkeys since last year.
The average price for a dozen Grade A large eggs was $4.30 in December. Last year it was $1.80, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
This year the price of eggs will fall 26.8%, said USDA Chief Economist Seth Meyer.
