Prior to the start of the Monday, Feb. 24 meeting of the full Nassau County Legislature, Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) joined his colleagues in saluting a Nassau County Police Department Detective for his dogged three-year pursuit of the suspect in a series of burglaries that impacted the communities of Legislative District 16.

Detective Sheehan was honored as the Nassau County Detectives Association’s Top Cop for February 2025 in recognition of his unwavering pursuit of a suspect behind three burglaries of occupied homes in Brookville, Glen Head and Muttontown and four attempted burglaries in Glen Head, Syosset, Laurel Hollow and Old Westbury. All seven incidents occurred during an approximately four-month span between May and September 2021.

To crack the case, Detective Sheehan worked with the Suffolk County Police Department, multiple Village police departments in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. After securing a grand jury indictment through his meticulous investigative work, Detective Sheehan’s sprawling investigation culminated with the suspect’s May 14, 2024 arrest connected with the burglaries and other charges.

“I felt like I was reading a script from ‘Law and Order’ on this one – this was absolutely amazing. It blew me away,” Deputy Minority Leader Drucker said. “Burglaries are the types of crimes that shake people’s confidence in their ability to live securely in their own homes, and when you are able to thwart a criminal enterprise like this one, you’re really contributing to the overall safety of our County. We owe law enforcement professionals like Detective Sheehan, who worked with such tenacity and attention to detail, a tremendous debt of gratitude for their tireless efforts to secure justice for the victims and their communities.”
