Long Island, NY - March 2, 2018 - Senator John E. Brooks met with the Long Island Library Resource Council on Library Advocacy Day, February 28th in the New York State Capital. Together they discussed the need to increase state library aid in this year’s budget. Among the constituents travelling to Albany to meet with Senator Brooks were residents of Freeport and Seaford and other areas of Long Island.

Senator Brooks said, “Libraries provide invaluable services and programs to all ages and we must increase state funding so that they can continue to provide smart, reliable programming to our communities.”

Senator Brooks recognizes the expanding services today’s libraries provide for our communities. Beyond the traditional book-lending long viewed as most libraries’ sole, or main purpose, today’s public libraries provide invaluable services and programs to all ages: ESL programs; children’s reading improvement and encouragement; computer assistance for seniors; homework help for students and resume help for the job seeker. A few other activities found at public libraries these days are author talks, technology classes, study groups, craft-making and cultural day trips.
