Update - Wednesday @ 11:30AM: With Winter Storm Saturn making its approach, the National Weather Service now has multiple warnings for the Long Island area, including a Winter Weather Advisory, Coastal Flood Advisory, Coastal Flood Watch, Wind Advisory, and a Hazardous Weather Outlook Alert.

Although there is an 80% chance of snow this afternoon, the majority of the snowfall will take place tonight, with a predicted accumulation of 2-4 inches, and Thursday, where we may get another additional 1-3 inches of snow.

Although Long Island will be avoiding the brunt of the Winter Storm dubbed Saturn, it is beginning to look more likely that the Island will be getting anywhere from 1-5 inches of snowfall – something that many locals are dreading, as the snows from Winter Storm Nemo have just melted. As of Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Watch as well as a Hazardous Weather Outlook Alert for Long Island – simply to ensure that locals stay alert and aware of the potentially hazardous conditions that could be brought on by this late winter storm.

According to both Weather.com and the National Weather Service, the Nor’easter will most likely begin to impact Long Island, and the New York Metro Area on Wednesday evening, into Thursday. Meteorologist’s storm path models indicate that Winter Storm Saturn will be a slow, drawn out storm, meaning the potential for larger snow accumulation, as well as a serious potential for coastal flooding in the area. It looks as though areas including Washington DC and Boston are going to be hit significantly harder than New York, however, there is still the potential for Long Island to receive some serious late-winter snowfall, and as they say – “it’s better to be safe than sorry”.
