Riverhead, NY - March 6, 2018 - On Tuesday, March 6th, the Suffolk County Legislature approved Introductory Resolution 1132, sponsored by Legislator Sarah Anker, directing all Suffolk County Information Technology (IT) Departments to develop cybersecurity strategies to mitigate threats and potential security breaches. As cybersecurity becomes a more prominent issue, communication between departments is critical to discuss potential threats and find solutions before a problem arises.
“Now, more than ever, Suffolk County has a responsibility to ensure that sensitive information is secure and protected from unauthorized users. To prevent cyber-attacks, the county’s information technology departments will coordinate their efforts to increase security,” said Legislator Sarah Anker.
The legislation requires the Information Technology Security Coordinator and the various Suffolk County IT Departments to jointly draft an IT Risk Assessment Report every year detailing cybersecurity strategies, threats, and solutions. In addition, the Security Coordinator and the IT departments will meet quarterly to discuss issues and technology related to cybersecurity.
