In January, young Bobby D’Amato came out of his room in the morning to discover his mother passed out in their Ridge home. What D’Amato didn’t know was that his mom had suffered a heart attack. What he did know was that he needed to get help fast.

He called 911 and then placed two other calls: one to his grandmother and another to his neighbor.

The Ridge Fire Department Rescue Squad responded to the call and according to a report, the mother was found with no pulse. They transported her to the hospital. First responders realized she had a heart attack and they didn’t know how long she had been unconscious.

In the hospital, she remained in a coma for about a week and a half before responding.

“Thankfully she is doing better and on the road to recovery,” a media release by the Town of Brookhaven said. “If it wasn’t for Bobby’s quick actions, she may not have made it.”

Just recently D’Amato was honored for his actions, credited with saving his mother’s life.

"As a first responder with the Ridge Fire Department, these are the types of calls we pray end well,” said Brookhaven Town Councilman Michael Loguercio. “In this case, Bobby’s quick actions assisted the EMS personnel to help provide his mother with emergency medical care and in turn saved her life.”
