Sayville Senior Killed in House Fire at Sunrise Village Community

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating a fire that killed a woman in Sayville early this morning.

Sayville, NY - March 6th, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating a fire that killed a woman in Sayville early this morning.

Fifth Precinct officers and firefighters responded to Revere Drive in the Sunrise Village community after a 911 caller reported a fire at approximately 4:20 a.m.

After the fire was extinguished, Elizabeth Sclafani, 90, a resident of 162 Revere Drive, was found deceased.

The residence at 163 Revere Drive, which is vacant, was destroyed by the fire, and the residence at 161 Revere Drive was damaged and the occupants escaped unharmed.

Firefighters from the Sayville, Bayport, Blue Point, Holbrook, Bohemia and West Sayville Fire Departments responded. One Sayville firefighter was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The Red Cross also responded to assist displaced residents.

Following a preliminary investigation, detectives believe the fire is non-criminal in nature.
