Carle Place, NY - March 8, 2017 - Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos is proud to announce that Carle Place High School will be sending a team of some of its best students to compete in the 5th Annual “Nassau County High School Comptroller’s Business Challenge" on April 4th. The Competition will feature many of the area High Schools and over 200 students are expected to participate and present their ideas for multi-billion dollar future businesses. This year, students have been challenged to conceptualize or develop and bring to market an APP with mass appeal in the fields of healthcare, public safety or homeland security.

“We are excited that Carle Place High School will be sending a team of some of its brightest students to participate in the Business Challenge,” said Comptroller George Maragos. “The ideas of young adults are usually the best source for incubating the companies of the future. We want the next SnapChat to be to be launched right here in Nassau County.”

“The students are excited to have the Nassau County Comptroller visit them this afternoon for a Q & A regarding the upcoming competition.  They look forward to participating in the Comptroller’s Challenge on April 4th.   It is the first time that they will participate.  We are elated and very excited and it’s very generous of the Comptroller and his office to volunteer his time to visit us and provide students with this wonderful opportunity,” said Mr. Thomas DePaola, Principal, Carle Place Middle School/High School.

The Challenge will be held at the Nassau County Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building in Mineola. Each high school in Nassau County is invited to participate in this event where students are asked to conceptualize a product or service APP and develop a business plan for a hypothetical start-up company and present it to a panel of local officials, venture capitalists and industry experts.

Each team must be composed of at least five (5) individuals in roles such as Chief Executive Officer, V.P. of Operations, V.P. of Finance, V.P. of Marketing and General Counsel; among any others students may feel necessary. Teams will be vying for cash scholarship prizes.
