Copiague Man Arrested after Fleeing Scene of Fatal Seven-Vehicle Crash, Police Say

Suffolk County Police today arrested a Copiague man for leaving the scene of a fatal seven-vehicle crash in Holbrook on March 4.
 
Police responded to a motor vehicle crash involving seven vehicles on Sunrise Highway, between Broadway and Lincoln Boulevard, at 4:35 a.m. on the day in question.
 
The operator of a 2002 Toyota Celica, Kelvin Saula-Bueno, 22, of Bay Shore, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue where he was pronounced dead. 
 
Three other drivers were transported to local hospitals for treatment on non-life-threatening injuries. Two drivers were not injured. There were no passengers in any of the involved vehicles.
 
The driver of a 2012 Mazda fled the scene on foot.
 
Following an investigation by Major Case Unit detectives, Christopher Macri was identified as the man who fled the scene of the crash. First Precinct Patrol and First Precinct Crime Section officers located Macri in a stolen vehicle on West Drive in Copiague.
 
Macri, 29, was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Incident with a Fatality. He was additionally charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree for stealing a vehicle in Copiague on March 7.
 
Macri was held overnight at the Third Precinct and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 9.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
