LIGHT ACCUMULATING SNOW TUESDAY MORNING A fast moving system will bring a band of light snow to the area Tuesday morning. A coating to less than 1 inch of snow accumulation is forecast. Roads will become snow covered due to the recent cold weather resulting in slippery travel conditions. Anyone planning to travel Tuesday morning should use extra caution. The accumulating snow will quickly come to an end late morning through midday with temperatures rising into the middle and upper 30s in the afternoon.

Central Islip Man Killed in Motor Vehicle Crash in Brentwood

Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a Central Islip man early this morning.

Brentwood, NY - March 9, 2015 - Joseph Leonard was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Express van eastbound on Express Drive South at the intersection of Crooked Hill Road in Brentwood when he apparently lost control of the vehicle at approximately 3:35 a.m. The vehicle struck several trees and a fence and overturned in a wooded area.
 
Leonard, 50, of East Cherry St., who was ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. His passenger, Rachel Boerke, 25, of 197 Lowndes Ave., Huntington Station, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for non-life-threatening injuries.
 
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
