Special Weather Statement issued December 21 at 10:02AM EST by NWS Upton NY Areas of 2 to 5 inches of snow have been reported across northeast New Jersey, NYC, Western Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley, and parts of western Connecticut. Wind gusts may peak around 30-35 mph this afternoon and may persist into the early evening before weakening early tonight. Conditions during this time are expected to lead to blowing snow already on the ground. This can lead to quickly reduced visibilities on roadways. Any untreated surfaces may remain snow- covered and icy into this evening, leading to hazardous driving conditions. Leave plenty of space between you and other drivers and drive at reduced speeds.

Brookhaven, NY - March 12, 2018 - Suffolk County Police arrested a man for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle crash with a police vehicle that injured an officer in Brookhaven on Saturday, March 10, 2018.
 
Dennis Knapp was driving a 1996 Jeep eastbound on Montauk Highway, near Old South Country Road, when his vehicle struck a police vehicle on a traffic post for a road closure due to down wires at approximately 3:30 a.m.
 
The Fifth Precinct officer in the vehicle was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Knapp, 28, of Shirley, was transported to Long Island Medical Center in East Patchogue for non-life-threatening injuries.
 
Knapp was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He will be held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on March 11.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
