AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. A 16-year-old student left school after a dispute with administrators, called 911, and falsely reported a shooting threat, cops say.

Cold Spring Harbor, NY - March 12, 2018 - Suffolk County Police arrested a high school student for falsely reporting an incident after she called 911 and reported a school shooting.
 
A 16-year-old Cold Spring Harbor Junior Senior High School student walked out of the school on Friday, March 9 at 11:10 a.m. after a dispute with administrators. The student went home, called 911 at 10:44 a.m., and reported a threat of a shooting at a school within the Cold Spring Harbor School District.   
 
Following an investigation, Second Precinct officers located the student at her home in Cold Spring Harbor, NY at 11:10 a.m. She was arrested and charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident.
 
The student was transported to Huntington Hospital for evaluation and will be scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
