Weather Alert

AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 11 PM EDT MONDAY The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam. from 11 AM to 11 PM EDT Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. The toll free number is 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. will be joined by Elected Officials, industry professionals and Commissioners from partnering corrections agencies for the official launch of the “Correctional Intelligence Center” (CIC) at a date to be determined in the very near future. The CIC is the first-of-its-kind jail intelligence network that will share data, trends, best practices and potential threats across the jails and prisons.

In order to keep the public, Correction Officers and incarcerated individuals safe, this center will proactively collect and disseminate trends about contraband, drugs, gang affiliations and potential threats through this network of jail and prison systems in the New York and New Jersey area. Sheriff Toulon will announce plans to expand across the Country, and nationally. Media is invited to the launch of the CIC, which is fully staffed with Corrections Intelligence Officers from the 6 initial participating agencies who are trained to gather, analyze, and disseminate the vast amount of intelligence generated from within the participating jail and prison systems.  The center also includes remote participation from 20 additional Counties in the New York State area.

Corrections intelligence is underutilized in solving crimes – Since Sheriff Toulon took office in 2018, he has expanded collaboration with local law enforcement agencies to help solve cases utilizing intelligence from inside the Suffolk Facilities. The CIC will expand on this to help cases beyond the Suffolk borders by sharing pertinent information with Task Forces embedded with the F.B.I., U.S. Marshalls, Homeland Security, Suffolk County Police Department, Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, and other police agencies.
