Homeless Shoplifter in Police Custody After Allegedly Assaulting NCPD Officer During Arrest

The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of an undomiciled man for an Assault that occurred on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 5:50 pm in North Lawrence.
  
According to detectives, Defendant William B. Foster, 44, was observed entering the Marshalls located at 345 Rockaway Turnpike.  A loss prevention officer recognized the defendant from a previous larceny and called police.  
 
Upon officer arrival, police located Defendant Foster in front of Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) and he fled the scene refusing to comply with multiple verbal commands from the officers.  After a brief foot pursuit, police were eventually able to secure the defendant and as a result of his actions, an officer suffered injuries. The injured officer was transported to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation.
 
Further investigation revealed that Defendant Foster was responsible for a Robbery on February 6, 2024 at 4:18 pm and two (2) Larcenies at Burlington Coat Factory, 345 Rockaway Turnpike, on January 1, 2024 at 1:30 am and February 12, 2024 at 2:07 pm.
 
Defendant William B. Foster is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Robbery 3rd Degree, two (2) counts of Petit Larceny and Resisting Arrest.  He will be arraigned on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
