Long Island radio cluster, Connoisseur Media Long Island, is responding to the continued blood shortage by organizing a community blood drive with the New York Blood Center on March 18, 2022, from 10am to 4pm at All-Sportz in Melville. The New York Blood Center continues to call for blood donations as the national blood crisis continues and the region’s blood supply remains critically low. All five of the Connoisseur Media Long Island radio stations, including: WALK 97.5, KJOY 98.3, 103.1 MAX FM, 94.3 THE SHARK, and WHLI 104.7FM/1100AM, will promote the “Long Island Gives: Blood Drive” by asking listeners to “be a hero” and become a blood donor. People can register to donate at www.LIBloodDrive.com.
“At Connoisseur Media, we focus on the three Cs and point our attention to things that matter to our Community, to our Colleagues and to our Clients,” said David Bevins, General Manager of the 5-station Long Island cluster. “This mission to collect hundreds of pints of blood at our Long Island Gives: Blood Drive hits the mark on all levels. We have regular blood donors who work for us and plenty of healthcare systems who advertise with us who need a healthy blood supply to support the needs of the community.”
News coverage of the national crisis resulted in a few weeks of increased blood donations and first-time donors, but already this slight uptick has weaned and supply is still at an all-time low. Action is needed now. The collective audience of the five radio stations will inviteapproximately 1 out of every 3 Long Islanders to register to donate on March 18th. Connoisseur Media will include entertainment, enhanced refreshments, and games with giveaways for all who attend with the intent to donate.
"We are incredibly grateful for Connoisseur Media's partnership in our fight to replenish the blood supply with these life saving donations," said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior Executive Director at New York Blood Center. "As the national blood crisis continues, we highly encourage those who are able and healthy to make a donation today."
