AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect for the following counties: Nassau and Suffolk. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Woman Seriously Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash During Winter Storm

Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a woman in Mastic Beach last night.

Mastic Beach, NY - March 15, 2017 - Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a woman in Mastic Beach last night.

Melissa Loiacono was driving a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on Mastic Road, south of Mastic Beach Road, when her vehicle left the road and struck a tree at 8:44 p.m.

Loiacono, 26, of Shirley, was transported by Mastic Beach Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment of serious injuries.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives believe icy roads may be a contributing factor in the crash. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Seventh Squad at 631-854-8752.
