Want to catch the Kentucky Derby but don’t know how to get there? A new airline has the answer for Long Islanders. Breeze Airlines started service out of MacArthur airport this February promoting itself as providing non-stop service on routes other airlines don’t fly. The airline recently announced that it will be flying to Louisville, KY on Thursday, May 5 from Long Island returning to MacArthur airport on Sunday, May 8 to catch the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The race is set for Saturday, May 7.

The Kentucky Derby is one of the most well- known Grade 1 Thoroughbred stakes races in the world. First run in 1875, this 1 1/4-mile (10 furlongs) race kicks-off the American Triple Crown of horse racing.

“If you’re a fan of horseracing, what better way to experience the first leg of the Triple Crown than in person at the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs,”  said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter.
