AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following areas: All five boroughs of New York City, and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Freeport Man Arrested for Attempted Murder

A man has been arrested after attacking a woman in Freeport.

Freeport, NY - March 17, 2014 - The First Squad reports the details of an arrest for Attempted Murder that occurred on March 17, 2014 at 5:30 AM in Freeport.
 
According to detectives, Freeport Police received a call for a female who had been stabbed. Upon arrival, police observed a 40 year old female victim standing in front of an Archer Street residence bleeding from the face and arms. The victim stated that the subject was still inside the home. After an investigation Eric W. Smith, 44, of Archer Street was placed under arrest without incident. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she is listed in stable condition.
 
Smith is being charged with Murder 2nd Degree (Attempted), Assault 1st and 2nd Degree, Unlawful Imprisonment, and 2 counts of Possession of a Dangerous a Weapon 4th Degree. He will be arraigned on March 18, 2014 at First District Court, Hempstead.
